A former beauty queen who is terminally ill appeared at a Donald Trump rally on Tuesday to publicly thank the candidate for encouraging her in the midst of her illness, creating an emotional moment that Trump called the “most beautiful” he’s experienced so far on the campaign trail.
“I just want to say, ‘Thank you.’ You’ve saved me in so many ways,” Melissa Consin Young, former Miss Wisconsin USA 2005, told Trump from where she stood in the audience at the rally. “In recent years, I’ve been struggling with an incurable illness and I’m on home care now and it was caused by a doctor’s medical negligence.”
Young recounted how she fell ill with an autonomic disease while she was pregnant her 7-year-old son Jack, the Milwaukee-Wisconsin Journal Sentinel reported.
The beauty reportedly queen suffers from autonomic failure, which, according to WPTZ-TV, is an incurable disease that causes parts of the nervous system to shutter.
“In those dark days, fighting — right now all the tubes have been removed and I have a ‘do not resuscitate’ order and I have a 7-year-old son — those days in the hospital, I received from you a handwritten letter that says ‘to the bravest woman I know,’” she continued through tears.
